Hi all. Time for a second podcast.

One thing I’ve had trouble with is getting it to sound fairly clean in Audacity. I’m not a sound engineer, so although I know what I want it to sound like I don’t really know how to get it there… so mostly I just run a low-pass filter over it to try and clean up the fuzz and background noise and then normalize the channel. By all means complain. You might also notice that todays podcast is made up of four separate recordings. This is because I’m not very good at keeping with my train of thought so I kept having to start over. This will get better with experience, I believe.

Hi all. I decided to try making a podcast. If this is well-received I might make this into a regular feature. I did all the recording and editing using Audacity and spliced in a GFDL’d intro chiptune by Mysid I picked up on Wikimedia Commons. Thanks Mysid! I had a lot of fun playing with the audio editing but I tried not to try anything fancy. Plain is good.

Download here in Ogg Vorbis format.

(I should probably supply MP3’s for those who put podcasts on their iPods or what not… but then again, iPods should support Ogg Vorbis out of the box, shouldn’t they? If enough people complain (count so far: 1) I’ll install an MP3 encoder and … yeah.)

Update: I’ve added a podcasting plugin to wordpress, which should provide a iTunes link. The downside of this is that I was forced to get lameenc and encode the audio as MP3 - while I do use MP3 for listening, it’s mostly due to the lack of availability of Ogg Vorbis. But c’est la vie. The podcasting plugin is good though, it takes care of all the feeds and everything for me and I just have to upload and point at the correct file(s). Yay.
